Chat with Author Mary Pearson about The Adoration of Jenna Fox!

Tonight, via the readergirlz blog, there will be a live chat with the author of The Adoration of Jenna Fox. Which, if you've at all talked to me about books in the last 9 months, you know I <3.Why do I heart it? Because:

"Jenna was in a coma for 18 months. When she wakes up she doesn't remember anything - or anyone. Not what happened to her. Not her parents. Not her grandmother. Soon little pieces of her memory start coming back, slowly, and with their return she begins to realize that the isolated world of Jenna Fox is not what it seems. As she slowly unravels what happened to her - and the implications of what was done to her - she finds that maybe it would have been better if she had never woken up from that coma at all."

(that's me, quoting from myself. It's lame, but why write it twice, right?)

There's lots of tension and it really made me think. I'd say more, but I don't want to give anything away. Anyway, I encourage you to attend the rgz chat! If you can't make tonight's chat, never fear, rgz features a different author every month! April will be ELLEN HOPKINS, author of CRANK, IDENTICAL, GLASS, GLASS and BURNED. (!!!)

Pride and Prejudice...gone wild?

One classic book that all sorts of people seem to love is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It has been made into many great movies, there are websites dedicated to it, and now there are a couple of cool variations coming out.

The first one I'm excited to see is a comic book version to be put out by Marvel Comics! How fun is that? There is a great article about it over at Newsarama: Pride, Prejudice and Comic Books: Talking to Nancy Butler .

The other spin-off I can't wait to read is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! Talk about crazy mash-ups!

What is your favorite incarnation of this great classic?

My Favorite Author

Ok, well, it's sorta true. I can't really say that I definitively have a favorite author, but I can say that Laurie Halse Anderson is one of very, very few authors whose books I not only read (every. single. one.) when they come out, I whose books I truly look forward to. For instance, her next title Wintergirls, is coming out on March 19th.

But why am I telling you all this? Especially since I just shared a video of this author last week? Because I just found an awesome podcast interview with her AND...

she's coming to Seattle. She'll be at the Ballard Branch of the Seattle Public Library on March 24th at 6:30pm. I can't go (which totally crushes me), but you should try. She's a great speaker. Learn more.

SPEAK

Ten years ago Laurie Halse Anderson wrote a book that is now considered a classic of teen literature. I don't say classic with the dusty and boring connotation it often means to me; I say it in that SPEAK helped set the tone for quality and truth in the teen fiction explosion that soon followed. In my opinion. Anyway, SPEAK has touched many, many lives, and in honor of that and its ten-year anniversary, LHA wrote a poem of tribute to all those people who have wrote to her over the last decade to share how Melinda's story in SPEAK touched their lives.

Here is the video of her reading her poem:
